Pick smarter, not harder.

PickWise packs 11 smart selection tools into one pie menu and sidebar panel. Select a little — PickWise grows it into exactly what you meant.

Every tool shows live sliders after running: drag the threshold and watch the selection update in real time. No guessing numbers, no redoing selections.

Edit Mode tools

  • Edge Flow — extend a selection along the straightest edge path through complex geometry, with an adjustable bend limit.
  • Loop Fill — select two edge loops and instantly fill the band of faces between them. One loop fills the enclosed region.
  • Surface Grab — flood across faces that form one continuous surface, stopping at creases, seams, or sharp edges.
  • Marked Edges — follow connected seams, sharps, creases, or bevel weights. Auto-detects which mark you picked.
  • Rim Edges — trace open borders, convex ridges, or concave grooves.
  • Radius Pick — grab every vertex within a distance, measured along the surface or through space.
  • Same Facing — select faces pointing the same direction within an angle limit.
  • Twin Islands — pick one bolt on an imported CAD model, select all of them. Matches islands by size and complexity.

Object Mode tools

  • Family Tree — select parents, children, siblings, ancestors, or the whole hierarchy.
  • Size Match — find objects of similar size by bounding volume or longest side.
  • Name Match — select "Bolt", "Bolt.001", and "Bolt_02" in one click, with optional fuzzy matching.

Built to be friendly

  • Suggested for You — the sidebar ranks the most relevant tools for your current mode and selection.
  • Multi-object edit mode supported on every mesh tool.
  • Helpful messages instead of silent failures — tools tell you what to select first.
  • Alt+Q pie menu (fully rebindable) plus a complete N-panel tab.

Works with Blender 4.2+. GPL licensed.

FAQ

Does it work with multiple objects in edit mode?

Yes, every Edit Mode tool works across all meshes you're editing at once.

A tool selected too much or too little. What do I do?

Don't undo — open the corner panel (bottom-left) or press F9 right after running the tool, and drag the threshold sliders. The selection updates live.

The Alt+Q shortcut doesn't work or conflicts with another addon — can I change it?

Yes. Open Preferences > Add-ons > PickWise and edit the shortcut there, per mode. All tools also remain available in the N-panel sidebar under the PickWise tab.

Which Blender versions are supported?

Blender 4.2 and newer, installed as an extension (Preferences > Get Extensions > Install from Disk, or drag the zip into Blender).

Documentation

Getting Started

After installing and enabling PickWise, you'll find it in two places in the 3D Viewport: press Alt+Q to open the PickWise Wheel (pie menu), or press N and open the PickWise sidebar tab. The sidebar includes a "Suggested for You" box that ranks the most relevant tools for your current mode and selection.

The workflow is always the same: select a little, then let PickWise grow it. After running any tool, adjust its sliders in the bottom-left corner panel (or press F9) — the selection updates live as you drag.

Edit Mode Tools

Edge Flow — Select an edge, run the tool, and the selection grows along the straightest connected path. The Bend Limit slider controls how sharp a turn the path may take.

Loop Fill — Select two edge loops (Alt+Click, then Shift+Alt+Click) and run Loop Fill to select the band of faces between them. With one closed loop it fills the smaller enclosed region. Use Flip Side to grab the other side.

Surface Grab — Select a face and flood outward across the continuous surface. Stops at angles above the Crease Limit, and optionally at seams and sharp edges.

Marked Edges — Select an edge carrying a mark (seam, sharp, crease, or bevel weight) and PickWise follows the whole connected marked path. Auto-detects the mark type.

Rim Edges — Follows open borders, convex ridges, or concave grooves from the selected edge.

Radius Pick — Selects all vertices within a radius of your selection, measured along the surface or straight through space.

Same Facing — Selects faces pointing the same direction as the picked face, within an angle limit. Whole Mesh option tests disconnected faces too.

Twin Islands — Select anything on one mesh island and PickWise selects every island of similar size and complexity. Great for imported CAD models full of identical bolts and fittings.

Object Mode Tools

Family Tree — Select relatives of the active object: parent, children, siblings, ancestors, descendants, or the whole hierarchy.

Size Match — Selects visible objects of similar size, by bounding volume or longest side, with a tolerance slider.

Name Match — Selects objects with matching names, ignoring .001 suffixes and trailing numbers (Bolt, Bolt.001, Bolt_02). A Fuzzy mode catches loosely similar names.

Tips

All Edit Mode tools support multi-object editing. Tools extend your current selection, so you can chain them. The Alt+Q shortcut can be changed in the addon preferences.

How to install

  1. Download the zip (don't unzip it).
  2. In Blender: Edit › Preferences › Get Extensions (or Add-ons) › ▾ menu › Install from Disk, and pick the zip.
  3. Press N in the 3D Viewport and open the PickWise tab, or press Alt+Q.
